Real windy all day and night. Lots of shorty grouper..flipper everywhere..moved to try and get away from him many times and then gave up, couldn't keep a live bait bait in the water. Started snapper fishing.... the Mango bite is on. Thru back everything under 12 ", gave away 5. Thats it...til the next time

John, what live bait were you using and what did you switch to once you gave up on live ones? Ive noticed that the rockpiles seem to hold more bigger snapper than the pilings...or maybe theres just less short ones in the piles Just about very snapper Ive pulled from the rocks has been 10-13", and I always seem to get a bunch of short grouper and some nice key west grunts in the mix as well when using cut greenbacks. Should be nice this weekend, the wind doesnt look too bad, and some cloud cover should take a bit of the heat off.

By live bait I meant pins, ladyfish greenbacks, threadfins etc.. I had them all for grouper, but flipper never gave me a chance. I used live shrimp for the mangos and yes caught some baby grouper in the mix. Kept moving and when I would get a mango I would work the spot until no mores bites or just to small.
If your like me, I make a stop at O'neils for shrimp. I'll use a few for sabiki and if I don't use them all, I freeze them for next time. I generally don't refreeze them a second time and will give them away if any are left after that. Yesterday I easily went thru the 5 dozen. The bigger mangos only hit the bigger shrimp. At least medium size or don't waste your money on them. I saw plenty of people using cut greenbacks, but at least for yesterday, shrimp was the bait of choice.
I agree the bigger ones are on the rockpiles
By the way, I finally remembered to take my thermometer with me yesterday and the water temp was 80 degrees at 4pm
