I hear some guys fish FDS.
This is a state park right?
There are two pier correct? Are they open 24/7?
Do they have a bait house?
Can you fish from the beach at night?
Is there "security" there at night?
Just wondering since I never been there.

Hey Monty, Tyler Durden fishes there regularly, hes given me some good info. Im sure he will help you out. Ive gotta stop procrastinating and get over there myself. Its one of the best parks in the area. Heres a site that has some good info www.best-of-st-pete-beach.com/fort-desoto-fishing-pier.htmlFrom the site: There are actually two piers at Fort Desoto Park. One is on the bay side and the other is on the Gulf. The pier on this page is the Gulf Fishing Pier. It is the longest (over 1,000 feet). It is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and always has people fishing on it. There is no charge to fish on the pier Fort Desoto Park, like most other County and State Parks, closes at sunset. Gates block access to certain areas of the park. But the fishing piers are OPEN 24 hours. The pier has plenty of lighting at night and it has tables with running water to clean your catch. Bait shop and concession hours: Mon-Fri 10am to 4pm, Sat-Sun 10am to 5pm. The "bait shop" is more of a tackle shop and food concession. They only sell frozen bait.

Yeah Fort D is one of my haunts and lately been bagging my snapper limit the last few times ive been out cept for this weekend dont know what was up wit that plus a few trout thrown in the mix.
There is a bait shop just over the drawbridge in the plaza on the right, good people in there
I mainly stick to the gulf pier, lately people been pulling out macks, snapper, and trout. Havent seen a keeper grouper in weeks tho. You can see the snook cruisin round the rock jetty often also but i dont fool wit them unless i can keep them. Bait is usually pretty abundant out there, bring a sabiki and a net sometime they are just to deep for the net. Lately ive been just using a sabiki cuz its less to carry.
Im out there almost every friday afternoon right outta work at 4. And usually make it back sometime during the weekend.
Bummer is i just read they are about to raise admission from $.35 to $3-5 But hey i just saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico...lol
