Sat around today watching the Rays win and reading the Sunday newspaper. Noticed High tide was around 5pm and realized I had a few pieces of cutbait in the freezer. So , around 5:30 I head out to Honeymoon Island with four pieces of cut bait. Cast the first chunk of bait bait out an in ten minutes I get a hit. Rod screams and line is ripping off the reel. Alot of head shaking and jumping but fish to far out to see. Few minutes later....... . 24 inch. nice fight. Hook the next piece of cut bait and toss it out. No sooner it hit the water... Fish on. Fish jumps a few times and the leader breaks. Rule #1. Re tie the hook after catching a snook. Line was all frayed from the first snook. One should know better. Well I tie on new leader and circle hook and cast the third piece of cut bait. A few minutes pass and another snook. This one puts up a nice fight. Few minutes later he is one shore. Grip the snook by the lips, unhook him and before I can give him a kiss and get a pic he gives a hard head shake and I lose my gripe and he swims away for another day. This time I re-tie the hook and throw out the 4th and final piece of bait. Within ten minutes another fish on. It takes some drag and when I reel in to self set the hook fish spits the hook. Well Got to the beach @ 5:45pm Four pieces of cut bait Four Hits on the bait, Landed two snook, 1 pic of Snook, 1 break-off 1 spit hook Left beach at 7:05 and home by 7:20pm Seems 90 minutes before High tide and the 90 minutes following the high tide has been producing best this month.

dead bait usually isnt productive for snook. I was surprised to hear that but i dont do much beach fishing for them. But this must be why they close this time of year down for them cuz they are just greedy fish this time of year. That snook i got at fort d a few weeks back i caught on a weighted line which usually doesnt work for them either. Ive been talking with a few regulars at my spots and they say the cops have been showing up more and catching people with snook alot.
But it sure is nice to be able to just head out for a lil bit and get a pole bent without much work...Definately a good way to head into a monday

dead bait usually isnt productive for snook. .Definately a good way to head into a monday Agreed. I di not think Dead bait would be god for snook either but just goes to show you that you have to switch it up a little. Not sure what kid of fish the dead bait is but I have been using the frozen stuff at wal-mart in the yellow and blue package. Not the frozen sardines. Pinfish chew those apart. The bag is actually labeled cut bait and the pinfish do not bother with it. Snook have not been eating the tails either. Only the mid sections. I been using a 2oz weight above a swivel then tie on 4-six piece of 20lb leader. I losen up the drag to prevent setting the circle hook ( old habit using j-hooks) or place in a rod holder. T

Of all the years i snooked fished in the clearwater area i have never caught a snook with cut bait. I use the fish the beaches a lot with cut bait and caught quite a variety of fish with cut bait but never a snook. MMMM go figure.. Next eaglesfan guy is gonna tell us hes catchin snook by trolling with plastic worms.

Believe it or not, one of the best baits for big snook is a mullet head soaked on the bottom at night. I didn't believe it either, until the guy that told me about it dredged up a 22 lb snook right in front of me.
Seeing is believing (most of the time...)

I know the Norh End on the ICW side of Honeymoon is loaded with beach snook, but I think the only way to get there is by boat, or "LONG HIKE"
Are there anymore easily accessible spots on Honeymoon? I'm thinking Dog Beach on the South Side might hold some.

Arrantzale. They are not at dog beach. Head north my friend. further the better. Do not let the swimmers bother you either. Just move 20yrs on either side. They are not spooking the snook on honeymoon.
