I see in the pier rules that there are designated areas where traps can be used...where are these areas on the SSP, and does anyone use traps for pinfish at the piers?? I was thinkin about picking one up, and finding a spot to drop it, then fish that spot for a while with dines or somethin while I wait for some live bait...how effective are the traps for getting bigger baitfish??
Ideally Id like to find a spot to set it up the night before (not at the pier of course) and pick it up on the way out, but thats a whole other ball of wax.

Yea, we all got the same problem. If can remember to take it with me, I'll get rif of it quick with the the pin trappers. They don't care what the size is for selling them. The guides love those small pins for snook.

Goingdeep, I got a couple I have used, but like Havetofish said, mostly good for small pins.

I use a larger sabiki with some squid on the tips. Works like a charm 1-6 pin fish every time. The reason for the bigger hooks is bigger chunks and a bigger barb so they stay on.

Yeah I usually go the sabiki route, and I like the bigger hooks too...for some reason Ive been having a hard time finding pins lately, been getting a ton of small grunts (tomtates), where a few weeks/months ago I couldnt keep pins off my hooks.

I've been catching everything else but pinfish. --- cowfish, spadefish,t rigerfish and spottail pinfish. Are spottails any good for bait ?

Spottail pins are ok for bait, but they don't swim as hard as a pin. Some people use them for cutbait. Heck some people eat them as well.
