4 tarpon i would use a mustad 7691 with a live latyfish at night in the shadow line u could also pick up a nice snook and if that dosent work i would lighten up a lil on your leader and mabby try a different bait pinfish, threadfin, punkenseed, ect.

Me and my dad have been cumming for the tarpon. Use dead bait on a 7/0 or 8/0 circle hook. In the past 3 weekends we hooked 23 tarpon. Each one is geting bigger each time we catch one.

Just curious Knotty or Rip, whats the game plan on release. Hooked a few myself out there and thats always in the back of my mind. I have seen the razor knife on the crab pole trick, do you have another way. Appreciate the input, hauling up a 100lb Silver King ain't Kosher.

A dehooking rig but the hard part is keeping the tarpon calm and by the pier without it breaking your line or hook.

Maybe this will help. Its a boat clip atached to a 20ft crab net. You clip it on to the line and push down. Be sure that the line is tight. It works great when you use circle hooks so you arent reaching down a tarpons throat.

Appreciate that Knotty. I use a de-hooker on the boat, gotta get me a pole long enough to mount one on.

when you mess it up, just re-adjust the clamps and you're good to go. be sure to tighten them with a rachet, not a screwdriver.

That blows to lose the fish but that would have been something really cool to witness at the same time.

Like I said in an earlier post. It's the Tarpon hook up, hammerhead or not. Try it in a kayak sometime for a real thrill. Sit back and enjoy the ride.................Fish on
