I have been doing pretty fair in the Little Manatee, working the Mangroves on the back sides. Also a little known spot south of the Little Manatee, basically a small tributary, kinda hard to see, and a bugger at low tide but has been real productive. Fish from the outside and work both edges. Big shrimp have been the bait of choice. Some big Trout have been hitting just north of Pinellas Point in those flats, biggest Trout so far being a 26", released of course. What ever you do, drift, no trolling motor and turn your live well off when you start your approach. Fix your spot on the boat and stay still, sound travels real far under water and them biggins can hear good.

I have done alright just north of longbar in sarasota bay. Also there is a flat on the manatee river west (about 1-2 miles) of the 41 bridge. Good luck in the tourney.

For reds I like using a gold spoon. You can cover a lot of area with it. When fishing in an unfamiliar spot, this is good. If you see tailing fish on the flats, get out of the boat. Throw live shrimp, free lined just in front of their noses. All these scented baits are great too. Put on a 1/8 oz. jig head and hang on. I don't fish that area so I cant help ya there. Good Luck
