Ok, went fishing with the parents this time. Got to the SSP early am Thursday morning, caught a few nice macks on gotcha plugs and 00 clark spoons. My dad caught a really nice bonnet head (released after pic) on a pinner fishing for grouper on the bottom. He baits up again, this time with a thread. Back to the bottom it goes, his reel starts screaming before he can set his rod down. Fish on! He gets it in and it turns out to be a 24" Spanish! fishing was good all morning with abundant amounts of large sized thread fins. Once the sun was high in the sky bait went deep and the fishing seemed to shut down a bit. So we took a break, refueled and started back fishing with not a lot of luck. As the sun went down we grabbed our snapper setups and started tossing live shrimp and cut bait. that went on till about 11 at night. Caught 2, 14" key west grunt about 8 mangos, the mangos where all on the small side 10-12 inches so they all went back. But before moving on I thought I would give it one more shot, tossed out a select shrimp bought from johns bait n tackle shop on gandy. As soon as the lead hit the bottom, Wham! Started stripping drag of my Quantum incyte 30, I knew it wasn't a snapper from the way it was pulling. After about a 10 minuet battle on 20 lb power pro, finally brought up a nice bonnet head(released after pic). While snapper fishing Had a whole ladyfish soaking for VW bugs with tails (jewfish), bowed up one time but broke me off rather quick. A bit disappointing but what a rush. Its now about 3 am with an incoming tide, Saw some shadows in the in the lights. Had a few shrimp left so I thought I would try a cork, and float some on top for trout. Did that till just before the sun was coming up. Caught 4 Keepers (16- 18 inches) and 4 or 5 short's with a mix of ladyfish. Suns coming up and the tides about to change, so I load up on Horse minnows and pinners. Started free lining with the sun on my back. Got slammed on 6500/teramar using a large pin, Rocked! So I put that rod away and got out my 450/8'uglystick, put another pin in the same spot, Fish on. Got her up 20 1/2", damn... Back in the water she went .Caught a little red grouper free lining a threadfin, that was a treat seeing on from the pier. I love how their eyes look. Been seeing more and more of them lately. As I was releasing the little red my Mom hooks up, she pulls up another short. Kept that up for another hour or so. There was a lot of air traffic, everything from a crazy water plane flying really low, coast guard helicopter, to a military jet. Got a few pics as they where flying by. As we are packing up out gear We see a huge sea turtle pop up, so I run over and take a few quick pics before it goes for another dive. Left about 11 am Friday morning, fish brought home: 8 Spanish 4 trout 2 key west grunt Pictures: had a blast out there with my parents, Hope you enjoyed the report. Tight lines

Hey,
Looks like you made out okay. Don't know if you remember me but I said hey to you early Thursday morning. Short haired guy. Name is Patrick, askin about freelining for Grouper. Anyways I left about noon Friday. I managed to pull up 2 small grouper, no keepers. Had a pinfish out freelining for a while, was getting ready to switch to the bottom when something hit it hard and then it quickly broke. Not sure what it coulda been, I guess best bet would be a grouper and rocked up. Anyways slow for me for my first time but I expected that, will be out next weekend so will see then. Good luck next time.

Nice report and good pics! Ive been trying to talk myself into pulling a 24 hr shift there for some time now but I still havent done it. I will do it soon for sure. I always end up leaving around 12-1am because I never catch as many fish at night as I do during the day for some reason.
