Went to Crystal River with a friend today, and anchored up in his hot spot about 3 miles out. After 30 min or so, I look down and there is a 40-50 lb cobia right next to the boat. Fed him a pin, and fought him for about 20 min before he broke off at boat side. 30 minutes later, I hooked another one about the same size on a small pin, on 8 lb test (trout fishing) it lasted a lot longer than I thought it would, but ended predictably. An hour later, I look down and there are 2 cobia next to the boat. my buddy hooked the smaller one (probably not a keeper) and kept it near the boat long enough for me to get a pin in front of the big one. 30 minutes later, and we finally had one in the boat! Didn't have a scale, but we estimated him at 45 to 50 lbs. We also caught about a dozen nice macks (16"-20") and 4 silver trout. All in all, a damn good day on the water!

Hey trucky, our girl showed up on Tuesday. Could not get a bait to her though. She was hangin' around on the other side with a complete slack tide around 8:30 am. Tide started to move and she was gone. I'm gonna get that girl sooner or later.

man i have to get me one of those. I want one of those more than i do a tarpon Its been numero uno on my list for a while now. Sometimes when Im fishin with the alley crew on Sundays at the pier, theyll be talkin about the poons, and I always chime in with my cobia crush. They all look at me like Im crazy. But I still want a cobe more than any fish out there right now. *disclaimer: The above statement in no way, shape or form means that I would be opposed to jumpin a poon on any given day.

The first hookup, and the one I caught were on 30 lb test. The one in the middle ate a trout bait on 8 lb test, which is why it didn't last very long.

Yea it was! and to figure he had so many cracks at it!! Sometimes the horses shoe is with ya... They were different fish. The first one was left with a hook and a 100# leader in his mouth.
