Late report.... Allison and i went for one more go round on the queen fleet.... As discouraging as i tried to be.. Allison had 1 day left of vacation.. so dammit.. i was takin her fishing. Cause wednesday was on for a charter out of gasparilla pass.. for big fish.. that report will blow you away.. Anyway.. we loaded up for a 4 hr day on the super queen.. well Capt.Todd! was the man!.. From the get go .. Allison broke in her new rod and reel.. with huge grunt after grunt.. as i was working heavy for grouper.. She loaded the cooler with big ole grunts as i worked hard for 16 to 19 inch red groupers... well were both happy on the way in we decide to do it one more go round and hit the afternoon ride.. They nailed 2 beautiful kings at the end of the first 4 hrs. well round 2 we have about 25 keywest grunts from 8 to 15 inches.. soon i get lucky.. 21 inch red grouper.. in the box! keep working for gags and managed 4 or so keywests of 15 ! inches! then Allison says i wanna try something bigger.. so she puts on a whole scalled sardine.. bam!! she's getting worked.. but im cheerleading.. she did it all perfect.. 24inch gag.. Her first keeper ever.. ill put pics up soon.. Captain found out it was her first so he made her kiss it!.. It was a great trip! 4 hrs fishing and we took home one 30 lb king,50 keywest grunts 2 keeper grouper... None too shabby! Happy Allison heading out to sea. Allisons first keeper Gag. this is most of our fish beggars some 34hr fish Have fun

You know to freeze them you encase them in water/ice right? No way. is this how you freeze your fish? I would think the fish would soak up the water when you defrost to eat. Not to mention that water takes on the tasete of other things in the freezer. Plus water/ice in the freezer goes bad over time. I have heard of lightly spaying water on the fish, place in freezer and when frozen spraying a little more water on the fish and freeze again. This is know as glazing. An effecitve method used by commercial fisherman but the ice glazing is very fragile and can break exposing the fish to air in the freezer and therefore freezer burn ( aka oxidation) I prefer to vacuum pack the fish to eliminate air from being exposed and causing freezer burn. I know they are a little pricey but well worth the cost. Another method is to wrap in plastic wrap they place in a ziplock freezer bag. Does anyone else have some freezing tips/ tricks???

I never i mean NEVER let my saltwater fish touch freshwater.. especially tap water.. I vacuum seal if i can or ziplock and take a straw and manually suck out the air... Fill your bag full of fillets and zip all the way to the straw... suck out the air... and in one motion pull the straw out while sucking and zip the last 1/4 inch shut.. takes a lil practice but works great... then toss in the Deep freezer.. www.queenfleet.com

fresh water keeps em good for months, sometimes salt water if i want to draw some of the blood out. But yeah i practically fill the bag with water over the fish squeeze out remaining air. Take em out 6 months later and still no freezer burn
Never let your fish touch fresh water? Not even at the filet table?

Not even at the fillet sink.. i rinse my knife... then wipe on my pants.. and keep filleting.. I used to do the water seal.. but it allways tasted funny took me years to realize why it tasted like hose water. cause i would constantly rinse my fish in the backyard as i was cleaning em in the hose water.. seal em in bags then freeze.. finally figured it out..
I also try not to keep too much fish if not sealed properly. Were big time fish eaters here so it dosent last long. I prefer a little freezer burn to the hose water chlorine taste..
But thats the way i do .. its just my prefference. if you like it sealed in water, and it tastes fresh.. Bang it on Bro.. Do what it do.

bucket of saltwater with ice in at the fillet table. I always fill a bucket before we head back in. freshwater makes your fish soft.
