Why are you so suprised. They all lie when giving fishing reports. I do have to admit that blatent lying or just not having a clue is somthing different.
When i worked at Big Pier 60 i answerd the phone once when somebody from the st.pete times called and wanted a report. It was early in the morning and i had just worked the night shift. I told them a few small trout and some lady fish. It was the truth and i was to young ( 19) and nieve to know to lie about it. My boss got so mad at me. He yelled at ( normal ) and told me to lie and allways tell them big snook redfish and what not. Go figure!!!!!!!!!!
That is why forums like this are so important. You will normaly get the true story from real fisherman. Not the wannabees in the bait house.

I like this part.. "Be gentle if you find yourself handling a Tarpon. Their internal organs are delicate, they can easily be killed by dropping them from the piers."What is somone doing lifting a Tarpon on to the pier? also "Lots of Snapper, I have heard of some as large as 20"I wanna see a 20" mangrove...LOL Anyway...that ought to help pack the pier, especially now that schools out. edit: Got to give some credit for reminding people of some of the regulations.

20" mango could be a possiblity if there was a real size limit to them. like 16" mabey. Cmon i personaly think that keeping any fish less than at least 12" is a waste.

I remember many years ago when I used to fish for tarpon off of Redington Pier, a reporter from St. Pete times walked out and asked if anyone had caught anything. One guy casually said, "Yeah, Jack released one about 80 lbs" The reporter asked for his last name and the guy said "Meoff" Sure enough, in the fishing report the next day: "Jack Meoff released an 80 lb tarpon from Redington Long Pier yesterday" I laughed until I cried!
