I have decided that I have had enough of the constant batle with the small D cell aerators. No matter which one I buy, something always happens to them. I lost a ton of bait last thurs on the SSP. Before I take the plunge my goal is to get something that; 1) I can take to piers etc 2) That I can possibly buy bait the night before 3) Fairly portable 4) Will handle enough baits to keep me going at a pier or possibly in my Gheenoe most of the day. Trolling buckets have their place too but I like the convience of an areator. The above all being said, I am looking at the floating version from Keepalive. Opinions? Pros / Cons? I use an aereator call long life i think, its black. I got it at the bait shop on the way to ft desoto. It works awesome, ive got it wet but its sealed, plus i had batteries in there for almost a year and it didnt stop working, but my fish didnt stay alive as long so i guess it wasnt pushing enough oxygen. Put new ones in and it works great. I will never buy one of those white ones again, those are serious POS's but for some reason the most popular. Check it out fishndad

I have been using the Power Bubbles aerator for years and love it you can use it in 2 different livewells at once or put both stones in one. very reliable aerator! www.marinemetal.com/mmpweb3.html

They all have their place. Depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If your gonna use a big tub, then the KeepAlive at the top is better because it will circulate the water and aerate it. If your just using a 5 gal. bucket, then a bubbler will be fine. Then your choice is if you want to use D cell or power it yourself. If you move around alot with your bucket then D cell in a bucket is your only real option.

One more option. I have a D cell bubbler that also plugs into a lighter outlet. Costs less than $20 at Southeast. Its the best of both worlds. Put it on the shady side of the truck or beside you when they're chewin fast and furious.

I like the floating oxygen infuser, by Marine Metal Products. Use to get em at W Mart, but they've been out lately. Even keeps Threadfins/Ladyfish alive for extended periods of time. Downside is, at about 40 bucks a pop, they don't seem to last very long. I purchased one of them 12 volt double bubblers, and theye ok, but not near as good as the Infuser. Right now I'm runnin a home made bilge pump, in combination with the bubbler, and it gets the job done, as long as you don't crowd the well, and keep the water fresh. But I'd still rather have the Blue Bubbler. If anybody sees em in stock anywhere please let me know! Thanx/hope that helps. J

Thanks for all the info / help guys. I ended up with the keep alive. Although I did get the one that stays on the bottom. That seemed to make the most sense. My first try of it will be this eve at the SSP. Fingers-crossed!!

yer gonna love it... keep the filters clean! A good tip is to wrap the whole pump in window screen, and secure it with a rubber band... keeps the threadfin scales and crap out of the pump! Good luck!

Skyjay -- Thats a great idea. I got to use it for the first time at the SSP last night. WOW is all I can say. I think your suggestion is a great idea. I hosed the whole unit off real well last night.
Now my new problem is FOAM ! Wow.. Has anyone tried that foam stop stuff?

When you have sardines or threadfins the foam is much worse than just pins. This is the main reason I try to separate baits between a livewell and a 5 gal bucket with a bubbler. The pins will live a long time in either. I scoop off the excess foam when needed to keep as much water as possible exposed to air. Foam is caused from all kinds of reasons, from the oils in the bait to the many tiny bubbles, but is not good for the baits. You need to play with the air flow a little to find the balance between too many and not enough. You can usually tell if there is not enough oxygen when you see some greenies come to the top for air. Too much bait in the tub and you will certainly get too much foam. The anti-foam products do work, but won't overcome too much bait or the wrong amount of airflow.
Anyway that's my .02 cents. Hope it helps
