But I did start contacting the Representatives again. Here is a sample of what was sent. Some of these guys are up for reelection shortly and their answers will definitely sway me to vote one way or another. ;D
Jimmie,
I wanted to take a minute and see what, if any, progress has been made concerning this issue. I know it's extremely unlikely that anything will ever be done to repair the east spans and make them useable again but I want to make sure that this issue is not swept under the carpet and forgotten. It would be nice if someone with some influence, like Representative Heller, would take an interest in things like this that affect the people he represents. We will probably never get all the facts behind the sudden closure of the east spans and why they were never maintained but at the very least we should take the necessary measures to ensure the same doesn't happen to the remainder of the fishing piers in the next few years. If it means adding a $1 maintenance fee (per car) to the admission price of getting on the pier I'm sure most if not all of the anglers would not have a problem with this as long as we were guaranteed that money would go towards maintaining the piers. There are probably many different ways the necessary income could be generated but it requires someone caring enough to do something about it and putting it up for a vote (if necessary). Far too often most people will just ignore the problem and either hope it will go away or that someone else will take care of it; the problem is that if everyone does this, then nothing gets done. I look forward to hearing from you and Representative Heller and hearing what ideas you have on this subject.
Thanks
Jamie Andrews
