Not my picture. From a facebook group. But can you tell if it’s a baby king or a mac and why?

I can't see it that well, but if what I see is the lateral line it doesn't make a dramatic drop like a king does

I agree it’s a Spanish, hard to tell from pic but I zoomed and also didn’t see any abrupt lateral line drop. Looks pretty small too probably one of those local barely keeper resident Mack’s hahah

Shadow from the sink makes it real hard to tell and you can’t see the dorsal fin at all

Point of this post is to help our fellow anglers know how to spot the difference between a baby king and a Mac, so it’ll save them the headache and $$$ from FWC.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen people either keep a baby king by accident at the skyway or seen post of social media or YouTube videos of people keeping baby kings mistaken for a Mac.

Top pic is a king, lateral line drops lower and dorsal fin is different

Click on the thumbnail for it to open in a larger image. Oh !!!! I see the lateral line now! The shadow line from the sink made it very easy to miss but that is absolutely a king

I've seen days when there was a hot bite with tons of small kings mixed in with Spanish macs. Many small kings got dropped into the coolers in the frenzy. Luckily the warden did not come out checking those days. Might have made the mistake myself a few times.

I wonder what those other fish are in the sink. Have you ever had sashimi blue runner? It’s really good. YouTube it.

Like the texture of it too, but I've heard many of people call it a trash fish. As a popular youtuber says, there are no trash fish, just trash cooks.

One of the way I tell them apart would be that the baby king doesn't stop moving(keep on trying to swim) after you land it. Spanish will stop moving after you land it.
