Just so others are not confused, neap tides are tides that are not very high or very low, and usually happen on semidiurnal tide days (4 tides a day). Perhaps you mean 2 highs and two lows when you call them 2-tide days. On 2-tide (one high, and one low) days, the tide comes in farther (are not neap, but are called king tides) and are higher/lower, and the currents are higher around mid way between the top and bottom of the tide. However, which (2 or 4 tides) are better for fishing is not just about the tide. A lot depends on the timing of the tide. A nice incoming tide in the early morning often results in good fishing -- but not always. It seems the fish know more about the tides and their effects on where they should be and how much they are feeding, than we do. Then there are many other factors, such as the wind speed and direction and its effect on water clarity and movement, that affect when and where fish are at any time. A neap tide occurs in the 1st and 3rd quarter of a moon, thus is the result of slow tidal movements. If we get very technical, a neap tide can occur on either a 2-tide day or 4-tide day. However, the easist indicator to a normal person without anaylazing data is a 2-tide day with a very slow incoming/outgoing is most assocaited to neap tides. What stage was the moon in last week... we just pasted a full moon soo... Fishsci, you seem very knowledgeable about everything that involves fishing besides the actual catching of the fish... You will never talk me down from the hill i stand on in trying to state that a neap tide will consistently produce good fishing. If yall slayed the bobos and macks on the pier for 2-3 days after a full moon. Id say the bait and water temp was a bigger factor.... in addition to right place right time. Oh boy here comes another 1000 words added to the Manifesto. I was just catching up! Thanks cabowabo.

Two tide days have the weakest current, how high or low they go doesn't matter to me, they are still slow as crap. You can verify this with a tide chart that lists tidal coefficients and they are usually in the mid 30s to low 40s. That is slow folks From one of the sites that list tidal coefficients: On the Tide Tables there are tidal coefficients which tell us the amplitude of the tide forecast (difference in height between the consecutive high tides and low tides in any given area). Thus, tidal coefficients do not directly tell anything about the tidal current speed. Plus, two-tide days (one high and one low) usually, but not always, occur when the gravity of the moon and the sun are alligned and thus have stronger pull on the water.

All of that may be true, but 2 tide days will have average to below average current speed. I've never seen a 2 tide day with ripping current and if we did most of Tampa would be covered with water

That you accept the facts and not just try to fight them is very commendable. The fact of the matter is that tides and currents in Tampa Bay are very, very complex. It would take a Ph.D. physical oceanographer to fully understand and know what to predict or generalize about. Most just try to figure out things based on their own experience and observation. That is not good enough for something so complex and variable as Tampa Bay tides. I can show you NOAA tide predictions (probably the gold standard) where in this coming early December, there will be 4-tide days when the highs and lows are only less than a foot different, and could not possibly result in strong tidal currents. In different months, the 4-tide day difference in high and low levels are so great that they undoubtedly would result in very fast currents given that they shift from the high level to the low level (or from low to high level) and undoubtedly would result in very fast tidal flow -- given that the change in level occurs in just about 6 hours, compared to the about 12 hours for the change in level during 2-tide days.
There is an old philosophical saying: He who knows not, but knows not that he knows not is a fool. He who knows not, but knows that he knows not is a wise man.
There are some here who just won't admit that they really know not, and worse, they attack anyone who might point out that they know not and don't know the difference between observational conclusion (opinion) and fact.
If there are any here who want to try to know more, and I do, I would be willing to help. Please let me know if any of you want to know more, or else I will just not try to help us all know more.
