Yeah man, that's a better description. I will be quite surprised if gag season ever opens again. Reminds me of what happened with Nassau grouper and it's been closed for decades

Reminds me of what happened with Nassau grouper and it's been closed for decades I don't understand how they come up with these harvest data and never will. Even Capt. Hubbard which is involved in a lot of top fisheries management groups has voiced his opinion. Lanes snapper closure was another mystery, Red Snapper I could believe that the numbers were down but they were every where when people would go offshore, never seem to slack off. You could catch 4 reds to every mango snapper. Who knows.

Problem is the peeps who are calling the shots have no idea what the stocks actually are. My guess is all of em can't figure out why they can't improve their golf swing and have never touched a fishing rod.

How would you know what the fish population is on a fish that constantly moving according to their food source and what the harvest data is for a given season, not everyone limits out or reports the catch on every trip, not recreational anyway, party boats do and commercial also but I keep hearing that the recreational takes the largest portion.

Theres a lot of water out there. It's inconceivable to me that any species stocks are at low levels. You couldn't drop a jig off anclote last month without a red grouper inhaling it and they're closed. Frustrating at best

Especially frustrating for those of us coming down on vacation…. We will be there October 28th - November 4th. Had planned on some gag fishing, but now…. Damn.

Our fisheries stock has been wiped out.

From what I hear, the FOD, Friends of Dolphins, were upset because their "friends" were getting too fat on pinfish that they were stealing from grouper fishermen! LOL

Saw huge dolphins out in the middle grounds eating 15# gag groupers that had to be released. They were vented but it takes a few minutes fir em to get their act together before swimming back down. Sharks were picking the ones off the descending devices. Dolphins were gett8ng the rest.

We are short on male gag not gag fish in general.

I got a free device on line from the organization that is promoting these as a better way to release deep water fish safely, With a heavy lead attached they get down quickly and with a High survival rate it's the way to go.(Return 'Em Right) you can't save them all though. seen a interesting video about that awhile back, if the sharks are a problem, next one that gets hooked let him run awhile and continue fishing . when you have caught a few fish, reel the shark back in and release him, he's done for awhile.

Try telling that to the Vietnamese folks... Our fisheries stock has been wiped out. Thats pretty racist of you. How is that racist? Vietnam fisheries stock pretty much doesn't exist inshore anymore. You will need to travel quite far out into sea. Basically cannot get fish from land anymore. Might be able to get some small or tiny bait fish or freshwater fish.

Over population causes over fishing, not allowing stocks to rebuild, do your research runner, some very well versed anglers on this forum, lots of years fishing time. Happening all over the world, demand is more than supply.
