Got here at 6:10 saw tarpon rolling under the bridge and saw macks skying around 7ish. Sabikid some white bait until a mackerel cut me off, threw casting spoons, gotcha plugs and live bait free lined. Macks only hot free line 3 or 4 times until 8:30.
Moved to end of pier saw maybe 15 bonita caught and 10-15 macks mostly caught on whitebait and a couple on like tube things. Tons of big bonita blitzes and some cool guys were letting us use their live bait. Both tax collectors where there saw 5 bulls roaming around for a couple of hours and waves after waves of flippers swimming through. One bull was hooked for almost 5 mins before chaffing off. All in alm great day if you wanted a shot at bonita and probably the slowest mackerel day out of this week. Also if you like blue runners hundreds were caught. I on the other hand caught a lizard fish on a gotcha😂

Spoons! They hit white spoons just like a mack. A bridge net is mandatory to get the big muthas

Bonito like fast moving baits or lures. Retrieve faster than for mackerel. Usually, live bait is better than lures, but only if the bait is free swimming. By that I mean that Bonito are not strongly attracted to a live bait that is drifted out and held in the same place in the current. They like a live bait that is swimming and moving freely and actively...not just in the same place in the current.

They were almost exclusively hitting free lined live bait (they were not hitting spanish sardines just pilchards and greenbacks), i believe there were one or two were caught on lures one being a plastic tube behind a weighted popping cork and the other being a silver spoon

Yea I’ve always hooked mine fishing spoons for Mack. Have heard white bait under popping cork also does well
