This one is going to be interesting. And not in a good way. Models have been in pretty solid agreement on a track just west of Tampa and into the big bend. Not good.

Never fish during a Hurricane. You will probably get a wind knot in your braided line.

Glad I'm not in Zone A

I'm in the very inland edge of Zone A, front yard is at 10', house is at 11-12'. I'm not worried about storm surge. I'm worried about all these 70-80 year old laurel oaks coming down.
And not having power for days. Thought about getting a large dual fuel portable and a house power hookup & isolation switch installed, but its $6-7K. Hard to make that kind of investment when you might never need it.

Trees are my concern as well, generator won't be much help if your roof is crushed

You will get some local flooding for sure, biggest problem with staying in place is emergency personnel will not respond with winds over 40 mph.If a old oak tree comes down on your house you will be on your own. A large standby generator is the way to go but add a extra $3K for electric and fuel installation providing you have a place to install a tank, Get your self a small Honda generator and a window shaker ac and you will be living in paradise.

I have a Troy built genny and my small ac we use for camping, it's actually a 5k mounted in a cooler with a flexible 8" duct coming out the top of cooler, can easily move from room to room. Call me redneck, hillbilly or whatever, it works great.

no it's a regular ac but in a upright configuration with a vent on the top. remote control, comes with a exhaust vent hose to go out the window, with wheels so you can move it room to room. cost more than a window ac but worth it. It does have a drain hose that goes out the same window.

Vent hose, do you mean drain hose? Wonder if that would cool my garage?

exhaust hose for the heat that normally comes out the back and a hose outlet for a garden hose or poly tubing to go thru the same window so it don't drip on your floors, this unit also has a dehumidifier built into it.

I've been pondering that storm surge all the experts are forecasting, Big Bend power plant sits right on the bay, if that plant gets flooded we won't have power for 5yrs

Wife has a cousin that lives in Cedar Key (ground Zero) in mobile home that will not leave, Cedar Key is a whole 2 ft above sea level, typical barrier island. Where does she think that 10' to 15' tide surge is going to go? Said been through them before. The most unbelievable part she used to live in Mexico beach.* ( update ) some one finally convinced her to relocate to Davenport.

Cedar Key is a place where you go to hide...there's no other sensible reason to be there beautiful little town, they haven't had a major storm of this size hit there in over a hundred years. some people have gotten complacent, a deadly fault.

No damage here on my block in Tampa. But things are looking really bad for Crystal River to Apalachicola. Cedar Key storm surge peaked around 9'. Winds were 125mph at landfall. The storm surge in Tampa Bay is around 5' above normal tide, will peak again this afternoon.

Any updates on pier reopening? The website says closed effective Aug 31st. I don't think they are too active on updates.

Maybe it will never re-open, any damage will shut that sucker down forever....it's becoming a real pain for FWC, and it's old
