Hi. I’ve seen some great mackerel fishing action at the North Venice Jetty on YouTube. I’m curious if anyone fishes there often and when does the mackerel show up there?
Thinking about making the trip after this coming Sunday’s cold front.
Thanks in advance.

Wouldn't call it great for mackerel. I think skyway is considerably better and much more consistent. Jettys are for runs of fish and they tend to be more dependent on the tides. Almost always lots of small jacks once the water is warm there. I'd fish for pompano there and switch to mackerel if you get cut offs. Be ready to lose jigs/spoons.

Might want to check out the red tide down there before making a drive. Looks like it is creeping up from Boca Grande to Sarasota

Yeah, red tide did not die back this winter like past years. Its appears to be on the increase to the south of Tampa Bay. This does not bode well for summer.

Really hope the deep injection well is operational at Piney Point for this next rainy season or they may be feeding the red tide once again..."but, but it's naturally occurring"
