Can y’all chill on these posts lmao. I like the numbers that’s fishsci posts. One great resource that has a newbie friendly format is tides4fishing. Here’s a link to the mullet key page. tides4fishing.com/us/florida-gulf-coast/mullet-key-channel-skyway Btw Use your phone if you can, it’s easier to exit out of ads that are on the page It’s a cool source that shows th majority of the information that matters when picking times and days to fish. IT IS NOT PERFECT. No source of info will be ever provide you the “answer”. When, where, and what to fish for comes from experience. What I did, and am still working on, is look at the days I fished on this site and mark the times I see/get action. It helps you learn what to look for and makes it “science” lol. Another thing I’d like to add is this, high flow of water does not mean clean water. Rain and wind affect the color of water almost more than just the tide does. Faster moving water favors predators due to bait being dragged by the current. That’s why Macks generally hit more in moving water and southern winds in spring and northern winds in fall help move the fish into the range of the skyway. Lots of opinions coming from me, a guy that hasn’t been out in a minute. Criticize me! In only makes me more dangerous to fish lmao.

Tidesforfishing is what many Anglers use. I Agree, it has everything on it.
Also, I made My Mack Prediction on the Macks coming back this Year like many years in the past. They always come back around February 14th. And they did. Someone even posted it. They may have been smaller in Size & Numbers but they did arrive on time. The Red Tide at the Mouth of Tampa Bay is what I think is holding them back. It is just the History of the Macks. Just like the Kings, they show up in early April every year.

Still trying to get a king off the pier. I’ve had 3 that were lost right at the pier. Folks trying to “help” by pulling up the line, getting in my way as I’m trying to drop the gaff, and another angler casting in my line to “get in on the action”. I don’t have a working baitcaster to do the double rod trolley rig. Think I can just use a surf rod setup to do a single line trolley? Or should I just bite the bullet and get a decent heavy setup?

A lot of us have fished SSP for years and I think the problem is we have been spoiled by the way fishing used to be. Years ago from Spring until the HOT water temps of the summer we could be assured of catching macks, even to the point of having to look up what the daily bag limit was. Today NO WAY, like it was and I think many of us are trying to figure out what the heck happened! Even tho we know it was Red Tide, pollution, ect. I have come to realize; today is not yesterday and I just go with the hopes of catching, but if not, enjoying the BEAUTY of God's Creation
