Went on short cruise to Cozumel. They had a really good tasting fish at the dinner buffets. It was called Barramundi and they are found in SE Asia and some raised commercially Anyone tried or seen them on sale here?

Plenty at the Asian supermarket as well but I wouldn't eat fish from there.

Plenty at the Asian supermarket as well but I wouldn't eat fish from there. I am careful what I buy...there's fish on sale at Winn Dixie too..flounder etc. that was not very good. I am better off catching small fish at the piers when the bigger ones not present.

You all may be interested to know that barramundi is the Australian version of our snook. They are closely related species of the Centropomidae family. The down-under species gets much larger than our snook, but has a very similar life history in that its main habitat is brackish waters, but it moves into coastal salt waters to spawn. They are now grow in aquaculture and thus end up on that cruise menu...probably tasting a lot like snook.

Great tasting fish. First time I tried it is when my Navy ship pulled into Darwin , Australia. Osceola Outback has a private fish farm (supplies local restaurants) that you can charter fishing trips.
