For me King for sure.
More meat. Love it grilled and plenty left for smoking. Grouper is delicious. But I feel like a good size king has more meat. Fight. King for sure. So I vote king.

My thought is this:
Both are prestigious and difficult to catch.
Both need good rods and reels... not your standard fresh water fish rod and reel for bass or whatever is biting.
Both are better to great eating fish.
Both can be accidentally caught while reeling in smaller fish, but usually targeted
And correct me if I am wrong. Keeper size grouper are there year round and keeper kings maybe 4 months out of the year for a real shot at them?

Gag all day! Kings are cute and all, but on grouper tackle you can drag em right on in. A gag knows his surroundings, he/she lives there . A king can run but cannot hide. Gags can do both. Most king fisher people use 30 lb line, a gag laughs at that. Last king i landed was under the pass a grille pier on 20 lb braid , and after a 20 minute fight was 34 inches, no way in any world would i have gotten a 34 inch gag up on that trout tackle. Plus gag grouper meat is delicious, kings are for catch and release or the smoker for fish dip. Or shark bait.
