Got off work for half day today and went out to the bridge for a bit. I got a few blue runners and pigfish, but couldn't catch a mack for nothing. The guys on either side of me were killing them. I threw spoons with 4 ounce weights, spoons with 2 ounce weights, I even tried one with no weight, nothing. Then I noticed the guys to the left were using bobber ribs so I tried that. I got closer that way as I got one cut off and two bites that I missed. I'm thinking I didn't have the set up quite right there as it's the first time using it. Anyway, I need to quit spilling the fish repellant I guess.

Where did you get cut off? Mainline above the bubble or at the lure? What pound test are you using for your bubble rig?
If it’s any comfort, You did catch more fish than most of us who were still at work!

I never used a bubble rig. But to me it seems like you bring in the lure back slower then using lead. Little more finesse perhaps. Just me two cents of observation. .

It was a bobber rig I was trying out. I got cut off just above the hook using 20lb mono. Next time I go I'll make up a rig or two in advance using 40lb flouro for a leader. I also failed to mention that I was using greenbacks as bait under the bobber. The premise seems to be that you float a wounded baitfish into the school and the Macks take it from there.

I usually just free line... unless windy.. then maybe float with splitshots or just splitshots.

The hook you use can make a difference; long shanks help keep the teeth off the line!

Yep, need a bigger leader. I use 40# or 50# mono or short light single strand for Spanish when using live finger mullet, live shrimp or belly strips Same for my bubble rigs,
