Hey All,
I recently got a canoe and wanted to try fishing from it around Ft Desoto. Anyone know of a good spot to try?

The area in front of the campsite is great, use Google maps, sat., to find drop offs and points, then locate with polarize glasses for trout. High tide edges of mangroves for Reds and snook. Be extremely careful in the main channel in a canoe as boats fly through that area!! Look at the map, plenty of safe places to launch with out a need to cross Bunces pass, don't forget to get parking pass that is required anywhere at the park. Same as anywhere else, probably just need to do some good old searching!

With so many species closed, if you want fish for food, target flounder in the sand patches in same area, hot Pink slowly across the bottom where there is no grass! If successful with my info, "We want pics" !!!

I was looking at aerial pics during lunchtime at work, and I see some interesting channels and such. I've been out there in my old aluminum canoe, but not fishing. My kids were small at the time, and in that metal boat we weren't going to sneak up on anything! This one is royalex, so should be a little quieter.

Have you tried Emerson Point for a canoe launch? It has a canoe launch that puts you in fishy water with a very brief paddle.

I've been considering taking my kayak or boat down there too. I bet all those channel mouths and grass flat edges would be good spots to fish on a falling tide. If I get the right forecast, I plan to take my boat out to fish the pass for spanish and pomps. I've been down there two weekends in a row and was surprised how few boat trailers were at the ramps when we left around 10am.

Launch before you go over the last bridge, very large flats to the west, to many boats in the channel for me and a small boat, all the back side of Shell Key is great for non motor
