This looks like one of the best Kingfish catching in many years..Guess ill get off my but and put put the boat around and see if i can't get one to kiss and release.. Are they any good other then smoked fish dip? I keep maybe one a year and either let go or give away those things.. Now a spanish i'll eat.. fantastic pan seared and in a taco.. just have to keep em cold.

As I was bringing up the King, He jumped in the air about 2' out of the water & took off. One Beautiful sight.

Not bad at all.

I like kings cooked just about anyway: grilled, baked, broiled or even fried. I’ve actually never smoked it. Look up a recipe for miso marinated mackerel.
Kings showed up on the northern Gulf this week and the Spanish bite has picked up top

They are offshore also, Wife and i went out of the gulf Harbors and 10 miles out, we started trolling, Weeds were bad, so i trolled bulled skirts 6 knockdowns and runs but wifey couldn't get to the rod fast enough, so all were lost.. It was fun and a learning curve for her. She is fluent on a spinning rod but the ole 6/0 and 4/0 had her at a loss.. Glad i wasn't dragging spoons would have filled the boat.. We already had a well full of huge grunts gettting ready to spawn. and some of the biggest sand perch all full of eggs.

Probably because we were trying to find bait the whole half day and when we started fishing we were way offshore.

All of the public numbers are holding fish.. 25 to 130ft there are tons of fish.. i have all sorts of frozen bait, From shrimp to squid wings..only use live bait when the real fish open up.. i have 3 pinfish traps and a corral.. plus my buddy always has bait in his traps and corral.. life of living on the water.. lol.

If You use Macks for the Bait they Must be of Legal Size & Kept Whole when using them for Bait.

Be sure you have hooks in that Mack from the head to the tail! I got a Mack biten in half by a large King. Just missed the trebble! If I would have had hooks to the tail I would have at least hooked it. Now when I make my rigs the will be labled for threadfin, blue runner, and mackerel.
