What's cold? This morning when I woke up it was 7 degrees. Next Wednesday can't find soon enough. Florida fishing here I come! When You move down from up north or live in Florida, Your Blood thins out due to the warmth down here. Some of Us were born up north & moved down here to get away from the cold weather & snow. When Your Blood thins out, You feel the Cold much easier. 40 degrees here is like 10 degrees up there. Most Northerners says that it is too hot down here. We in Florida Love the Warmth to Fish. Move to Florida to experience that.

But its a dry cold up north! Seriously, I grew up in PA and can handle 20 and dry up there easier than 40 and damp down here on the Gulf coast! Sorry, de-railed this thread.......

To be clear, I am a northeasterner that moved down 8 months ago and the blood has still not thinned. I walk into work with no jacket on at 40 degrees and everyone else looks at me like I'm insane.
BUT...... back to the topic..... are the fish around?!?! Do we think that the warmer weather over the next 2 days will get the fishies biting by the weekend? Seemed like the last major cold front froze everything for much longer that I expected....

Don't know, we may have more cold fronts coming. Several years ago we had frost a few times in April and a massive Snook kill.

I'm thinking (and hoping) that after a couple of days of not feeding during this cold front they will be good and hungry by Saturday!!!

Normal pattern in spring is that things slow down the day or two after the front. Then the water warms & clears and fish turn back on before the next front blows through. Up here on the northern Gulf, the pompano and whiting are really kicking in. Spanish are just starting to show up. Y'all are about 2-3 weeks ahead of us.

Was also thinking about launching my yak there by the NSP, right before the toll booth. I've have not put my yak in there before but every time I'm heading out on the pier I think about it. Looks like expansive grass flats. Any insight???

Best bet is to launch at the access road entrance and go back in to Terra Ciea bay

On the south end of the bridge west of the rest area that is. North side will be overrun with kite boarders and horses

Manatee Ave. (64) beachside boat ramp on the north side before you get to the beach. Always did well on the flats to the north and then head east, under the bridge then SW to grassy point bayou.

I never had banner days for trout and reds off the rest area. I usually put in on Pinellas byway near the Tampa Bay Watch and east or west is good fishing (better west I think). The byway gives you more area with less paddling. That's where I used to get fiddlers too...

I never tried the NSP side not many flats from what I could see from the Google Earth, but if you want to drift some nice flats try the SSP rest stop on the east side. Limited out on big trout several times out there with live shrimp.

Water temp dropped 3° during this cold snap. That's enough to keep me off the piers for a while

Now the Weather Forecasters are saying that the Cold Fronts are not over yet. Another one is supposed to come in here next Sunday or so. That Northern Groundhog needs to be put on a hook & used for bait.

I went out to test the waters at Sand Key piers at high tide around 1230pm. Had a fish on with first cast, actually a drop by one of the posts. It was good sized but it had the line wrapped up with the post. Tried to get it out for 10 minutes but eventually it got off. No action other than that. No one else catching anything worth of note. Water was cloudy. Too early yet. Think by end of weekend or early next week, bite will be back.
