Arrived around 10 am with 2 dozen medium shrimp and frozen pilchards. Tide was going out and I was after snapper again. I did not have a lot of luck getting any keeper Mangos with those baits, but big catfish, small grouper and jacks kept me entertained. I decided to sabiki up some live pilchards and in short time I had a 12.5 inch Mango (dinner!). Tide was strong so I had on a 3oz fish finder rig. Then something big hit ( Tarpon, Bonita or whatever) and my drag was screaming. It headed toward a piling and I tried to horse it and it broke my swivel right in half. I had to run errands so I left around 3. What I saw others catch was a fat bonita, big Jacks and quite a few Macks. I returned at 7 p.m. with a dozen fiddler crabs but had no luck. The tide was going in and the wind was blowing in the opposite direction, making it hard to detect any nibbles. Do Sheapshead even feed at night? Overall it was a great day, talked to some cool people and as always picked up a little trash to clean things up a bit. I hope the action is getting better, because it seemed like it was today, saw a lot of people catch fish!

Thanks for the report. Friday the 13th was lucky for you, unlucky for that mango!
I'm going to brave the weekenders crowd tomorrow and see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the report, Karneei. And, good on you for picking up some trash. I always try to throw out some of the cruft that people leave behind as well, especially wads of line... GK, looking forward to the report!

GK, looking forward to the report! Always a lot of line, people are lazy especially with the tubes to dispose of it everywhere. On the upside, I almost always find something useful lead, swivels etc.

GK, looking forward to the report! We always pick up some of the trash when fishing the Skyway piers. I have found some really good fishing gloves, a good long filet knife along with hooks, sinkers, sabiki rigs, coins...you name it! And a very good fishing report, Karneei!

Sounds good! I think what you hooked was a big Bonita or jack. Both of which I've always wanted to catch myself. I've caught plenty of little rat jack crevalle while snapper fishing though.

Does this forum allow pics anymore?
If it did you'd gaze at the mess of jacks and bluerunners I so expertly pulled in today. Fished from 6a-3p. Zillions of bait, only a few jacks disrupting them. More time than not, nothing. Didn't see anyone else catching either.
I couldn't stay until twilight when the macks are supposed to present themselves. Too long a day for me...

GK Yep, we got a bunch Saturday sunset.. about 20+ macks... I only got 3 macks today as well. Thought they would hit during sunrise but I guess wrong.
