Can anyone recommend a good crabbing spot for crabbing from the shore or pier? Since becoming mobility challenged (is that the pc term?) I can't run a line of traps or trotline like I used to do at the wye river in MD. Catching a bushel or so required a lot of dexterity, strength, and endurance, which I just don't have anymore. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Blue Claws and Stone Crabs are my quarry.

Might want to narrow it down with some more specifics. Are you in a wheel chair? Can you use crab pots, dip net, hand line....... Where are you located? I have a few basic spots that I go to from time to time. I know Nada about Maryland

I use my crab pot/cage. I have a spot on the river I can leave it overnight on a dock. After a long day fishing I put the leftover fish after I filet them in the pot. Sometimes I get 1 crab sometimes 7. I usually clean and freeze them to eat later.

I have a wheelchair that I use occasionally, I have an assistant/friend that can drive me places. I can use crab pots, traps, dip nets, hand lines, etc. I mostly don't go in boats because of the balance problems, that's why I stick to land. I hear the Baytown area has some good spots...I moved to FL a couple of years ago and I am no familiar with many places yet.

There are plenty of good places in the bay area to get blue crab. Not really Familiar with Stone.
NSP skyway is a really good place to get them, but it can be hard at times. Some of the groups can be fairly fierce about catching the float by crabs with the tide (watch for swinging net handles). You can also get them near the "Y" on the SSP but no where near as many but less competition.
You can set a basic style crab pot or simple pyramid pot for them Pretty much any where with a decent drop off, creek bed, brackish river channel. I like to use a piece of (On sale cheap as hell Chicken), With a bag of home made ground fish (left over sabiki or cast net bait). But the chum isn't necessary. Ive done this from the U dock and boat ramp at Lowry Park (Hillsborough River) for blue crab.
I catch Blue crab at EG Simmons Park with hand line, dip net and chicken wings, while lines soak. Normally toss out chicken wait a bit, then slowly retrieve and repeat. Setting pots can be done as well but would be hard if you can walk the pots out.
If you can find a nice concrete sea wall, Like Bayshore (where you could use your wheel chair for mobility). You can pick them off the walls with a hand net (prefer night with a good headlamp)
Im sure there are more experience people on the board on the subject. Im happy if I get enough to make some Devil crabs, Impanathas, Or Jaiba Enchiladas as by catch while fishing.
Tight Lines.

speaking of crabs ... reminds me of when I was young where I lived in australia we had Mud Crabs they a huge with quite large claws see pic here www.abc.net.au/site-archive/rural/news/content/201301/s3675219.htmrumor has it they can take off your finger in a blink! we would go walking along a seawall at nigh with a flashlight, dip net and a sugar sack. stupid crabs would trap themselves nicely up against the seawall got about 3 or 4 in the sack one night .... it was either getting a bit heavy or the beer was kicking in slung the sack over my shoulder to carry it well a few minutes later all hell breaks loose .... one of them bastards clawed me in the middle of my back and wouldn't let go I let go of the sack ... but it stayed there wish there was cell phones in those days, would have gotten a winning Americas Funniest Video

Sounds like the making of a horror movie... Glad you survived. A pinch from a blue claw is bad enough I can only imagine what that would be like...
