Bought a diawa BG 6500 and what seemed like a good idea at the time paired it with a 11' surf rod thinking it would work great for 2 ounce flair hawk jigs but that thing is a work out looking for a shorter maybe 6' to 8' something I can use on party charters for grouper and stuff as well as skyway any ideas?

You might want to look at the new Ugly Stick Bigwater 7', available in 15-30 and 20-40. I bought the heavy to pair with the same reel, my first Ugly ever.
It has a better 'feel' to me than the older models of Ugly Sticks, but I haven't put it to use yet so we'll see how it does.
Of course, the sky's the limit, there are some great graphite sticks out there going from $100 on up.

What's your Budget for a rod?
Look at the TFO, I have 15-30, it's aimed at the St Croix Avid range. 7ft-11"
Also the St Croix Tidemasters they do an 8ft or the Shimano Teramar also in an 8ft. Crowder does the E series that are pretty sweet too.
On the lower end of the better rod manufactures, St Croix Premier and Mojo or the Crowder Salute series.
If moneys not an issue, the United Composites rods or Phenix rods. The United Composite rods are built for throwing flair hawks and have cult following for snook hunters along the east coast and pier fisherman in california too.
