Been digging around on your board the last week and a half... thought I'd pay a little bit back.
Im a displaced Michigander down in Arcadia working on my mother-in-law's property the last 10 days and had to get out and fish! Left a hot perch bite on Lake Erie so I needed a tug on the line!
Took my buddy who has never fished before and we hit the pier about 5pm. Stopped at the bait shop to check it out as I had not been to the pier in about 15 years...
Picked up this cool gold Mack lure that I think will cross over real nice for walleye through the ice and a bait kinfe so my leatherman didnt get the funk.
Stopped at sunshine bait on the way in and snagged some shrimp.. I will have to find a new bait shop as they weren't very helpful on Intel and they acted like I was interrupting their day...One and done!
Rigged up a couple of Sabiki rods... one red and one green...Tons of bait around on the bayside and we put 20 greenies in the bucket. Fish definitely liked the red rigs better. Lots of manta rays coming through crashing schools of bait yesterday. I was talking to my buddy and didn't wasn't paying attention darn near lost my ride out of my hand when I hooked one by accident.
After we got our bait..just passed the bait store ironically... we headed a little further down the pier and set up. Give my buddy gold spoon cast and I rigged up a slip bobber rig with some shrimp..
Found some macks willing to play and we had pretty hot action for an hour or so right before sunset. We are getting them on the spoon (till he hooked the pier) but they were smoking the shrimp! I think we put 11 over the rail and missed probably twice that many.
After sunset we went and set up bottom rigs a little further down the pier... my buddy had a couple of good thumps but was using my 15 lb rig and didn't stand a chance.. I just fed the crabs!
About 10 p.m. we went and set up closer to the toll booth to try for some sharks since my buddy wanted to catch one...Just about an hour there..no luck on the the toothy critters so we packed it in about 1130.
Not a bad way to kill an afternoon!
I think I got my buddy hooked... he juat spent $150 on Amazon this morning buying gear!
First hit is free buddy!
