Is that possibility photoshopped? Not too sure the photo is not altered, though it's not a very good definition.
Mutations happen in all creatures. Maybe it is real. But I can say I've never caught a spotted redfish... GK

Thats a freckled red, very rare. I went with Mario Costello of Tall tales charters and caught one with 24 plus spots on each side. i was like ok ... pretty ... he was like this would be a tournament winner for spots.. lol i dunno i guess they have tournaments for spot counts ..

I'm curious, any of you marine biologists out there? Is this like a subspecies or just a mutation?
I did see some redfish on my sonar, but the display was rather spotty...

One of my old fishing friends lives up in Jacksonville, he said it's common to catch Reds with 7 to 8 spots on each side up there, and yes they have tournaments for the most spots, never seen that many spots on one, all of us older people have seen many changes over the years, when I was a kid Reds were considered junk fish, no size or bag limit.

Nice photos. At quick glance, they look like giant trout except for the head. Great looking fish.

What i know is long time ago there was no size or bag limit for snook also.

I just attached some of these lucky anglers pictures and asked skyway piers members if any one ever caught a red fish with marking like this.. Here is my picture with my last red fish from some months ago.
