Have a quick question for you all. What do you do when you get a ladyfish? Do you throw it back cut it up for bait? Curious I got about 4 threw one back in.

My family makes fish balls out of them, but they are good cut bait for sharks and supposedly red fish.
Couple years back a friend of mine landed a fairly large nurse shark on a cut lady on NP. Otherwise they are just fun to catch.

I throw them back. The meat is too mushy for anything else other than fish balls or smoke fish dip, too mich work for me though.

Use them for bait, dead or alive, whole or cut.

They are very good bait. I will cut them into first sized chunks for grouper bait if the current is running. Or smaller chunks for snapper. If I'm offshore I will use them whole sometimes.

Ditto on the bait use, especially in winter when there is no other bait around, bluefish especially love chunks of ladyfish, any inshore fish will take a chunk of lady...They throw the hook fairly easy if you hook one and want to keep it, ease off a bit on the pressure, on the other hand if you don't want to bothered by one tighten drag a bit and it will increase the chance of pulling the hook from it. They like to jump, so you can easily confirm that its a lady... enjoy, they are fun to catch.... when nothing better is biting...

Check the recipes threads. I have a post how to prepare and cook. They are more trouble than the normal fish but can be worth it.

Cut it up a bit so the blood and oil is smellier, hook em in the lip and send him down. Hold on tight.
