Fished 630am to 200pm. Using small shrimp (larger are in short supply now?) Had two good hits at sunrise, but both got bit off on 20lb fluro. Put on 25lb fluro, another hard hit and bite off. I didn't have any bigger fluro. Water was moving slow. I decided to try my hand at the macks as there was bait being attacked by birds in multiple spots all down the peir. Well, I managed to snag my only squid spoon. Went back to mango hunting. I then saw a guy double time it to the bait shop and cone back with two bags of ice ( must need them for something) so I asked him. He "no English". No problem, I used my terrible sounding spanish skills and found out the were getting keeper macks toward the end of the peir. Missing that spoon now. Went back to tossing shrimp. Had one get mangled by something small and was reeling it in fast to replace and a small, skinny 7 inch mack hit it. Sent him back and lucky I didn't lose another hook. I got two keeper Mangos when the water went slack. This was best for me. I could actually see the Mangos hanging out with the Sheepshead ( big ones) real tight on the pilings. The smaller ones would chase bait out away from the piling, but the keepers stayed real close. It was very interesting watching them see the shrimp and they seemed to almost discuss wether to eat it. A couple were brave enough and will be dinner. Also got a keeper lane. Threw back 6 shorty Mangos too. Overall a good day a out.
Also saw a kid land a 20" Black Grouper in front of the bait shop on a Greenback as I was leaving. He tossed it back.
