Showed up to the SSP around 7:30 PM with my girlfriend and a friend, looking to snag into some snapper. Brought some pinfish to throw out on my grouper rod. The fishing was a little slow, but pulled up plenty of key west grunts, and pinfish, so we decided to move down the pier around midnight. stopped at a new location and tossed out the grouper rod with a lively pinfish hoping to get a run, and was fishing cutbait and shrimp near the pylons, and periodically casting out looking for the rock piles. Well my fishing partners definitely found the rock piles, as I was rerigging both of their rods the whole night haha. 2-2:30 rolled around and the snapper started to pick up, was fishing a pylon and was pulling them out one after another, all oh-so-close to 10 in, so we threw them back. I informed everyone that they school in around the same size so lets walk around to see if we can find a bigger sized school. Kept finding pinnies, or KW grunts. FINALLY, slam my rod hammers down and I yell, this is definitely a snapper. sure enough I get him over the rail and he is every bit of 12-13 inches. As I lob him over the rail he comes off the hook and starts flopping towards the rail, so I give him a kick back towards the sidewall where we were sitting. What happens.......I KICKED HIM STRAIGHT TOWARDS ONE OF THE HOLES AND DOWN AND AWAY HE GOES. Can't believe I just did that, everyone is now laughing and all I can do is laugh at myself. Humiliated we continue to fish, and cannot find any more keeper snapper. Finally my grouper rod starts zinging and I run to grab it. I set the hook and got a 15-20 seconds fight then lost it. Well we tried. We continued to fish and laugh at me kicking the ONE keeper down the hole until 4 am. Had fun, good company, glad I could convince my girlfriend to come out as she was determined to get a snapper. Well that is my report of the nights, maybe not the best fishing, but hey, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work".
