Got to the pier around 1:30 am and left at 9:30. Caught 3 Mangos around 11 inches each on the incoming tide. I tossed the first two back(sometimes you know you won't feel like cleaning them) gave the third one away to someone who had pulled up close to me and started fishing, he seemed pretty appreciative Between day break and 9:30 I caught about 5 small grouper between 9-15 inches, and one that was closer to 20. I had one that felt much bigger get away. And earlier in the night when I was fishing for mangos I had something pull me into the pilon and break me off, maybe a grouper or a big snapper. Mangos were caught on cut greenbacks and the grouper on live pinfish and greenbacks. I could see a bunch of lady fish swimming around near the front of the pier.

Nice to see some good snapper reports coming in! Cut greenbacks have been my go to out there so far for snapper. Tried using shrimp and was pulling bait fish left and right, switched to cutbait and had a higher rate of snapper hitting. Thanks for the report.

Nice report, looks like a fun night of fishing. I'm still hunting for my first keeper grouper. Tight lines.

Nice day👍🏼 Did you see any macks being caught? I didn't fish for them myself but I didn't notice anyone else pull one up.

Nice report, looks like a fun night of fishing. I'm still hunting for my first keeper grouper. Tight lines. I think right now the water is too warm and the bigger grouper are deeper, probably later in the year when we get some cold fronts they will move in. Not saying it can't happen though. The keepers are much more elusive than they used to be for me, I think there is just more fishing pressure out there than years ago. I remember it was probably close to ten years ago now, I was fishing an outgoing tide with my Dad and we pulled up 5 keeper grouper in an hour, on one spot(regulation was 22 inches) in the middle of the night. Biggest was 27 and we lost a couple more. That was on one spot. Now I feel lucky if I get one keeper grouper worthy bite every few trips :/ Throwing live pinfish or big greenbacks on those rock piles at dawn used to be automatic grouper.

Carey: You are absolutely right about the Grouper & Other Species going for the Deep Water to Cool Off. As You said, Later in the Year will be much better for Grouper but sometimes if you put a Bait right in front of them they will sometimes take it. You just have to be Lucky at this time of the Year with the Water Temperatures around 90. I even want to stay in the Shade & Get Lazy when the Air Temperature gets into the 90's. The Fish are the same way. They are "No Different" than Us.. Even Pinfish, Grunts & Other Fish slow down on biting when the Temperature changes just a Few Degrees.

Hi everyone, long time lurker and decided to join after seeing Carey's post:
Carey - thanks for the mango snapper. I saw you fighting/bringing in the bigger grouper and thought it was a keeper, but guess just short.
I managed to hook three macks and landed two (16 and 13.5). Macks caught on a homemade mackeral sabiki and free-lined threadfin fillet. The one lost as i was attempting to flip over the railing wasn't very big. The macks were caught just before/after day break (tide was still coming in). Seems to be a very short window on the mack bite...
Caught some lane snapper and big ladyfish that were released. My son caught what looked like a small moray eel (white with a black pattern).
At night, I caught a lot of small bait with the cast net (what looked like baby threads and spanish sardines). My son was catching big green backs with a sabiki near the lights. Lots of threadfins after day break.
Had the fun of almost getting spooled by flipper in the morning. Catching pinfish and he decides to grab it and takes off. He lets it go and as I'm reeling in takes it again. This happens two more times and I'm down to the backing. Fortunately, he manages to de-hook the pin and I'm able to get all my line back.
I don't go out there often but will post reports in the future. Tight lines everyone!

Flipper is something I haven't learned how to avoid, there is one with a messed up dorsal fin that will go up and down the pier. I usually fish at night so it isn't a problem but last time I went and stayed all day he was relentless.
