Hello all,
I have now used pompano and bucktail jigs instead of bell sinners in the bottom of my sabiki. I had a Mack on the pomp and jacks on the buck.
In the coming weeks I am gonna try a gotcha plug and see if the results change.
Have any of y'all tried something like this before?

It's a neat trick, last summer I used them as I had no sinkers, I've even used jig heads with shrimp on the them. quite often you'll get a bitter sized bait or a keeper fish.

Year before last I caught a Pompano on the Sabiki. Damndest thing I've ever caught on Sabiki.
Darn good idea, I'm going to try that.

How are You Guys doing it ?
I only Catch Pinfish & Grunts on My Sabiki Tipped with Squid. I put Shrimp on it & I get Pinfish Galore & Crabs Cutting the Lines.
I am still trying to Figure Out what the Crabs are doing with My Weights !
Maybe a Bunker ! LOL

Kinda tha same, years ago fly fishing Yellowstone, I was using a strike indacator, this old man ask what I was planning on catching on my bobber, then showed me to use a large stimulator instead, biggest cuttrought I caught that year was on that two inch Orange stimulator, he also added about 50 foot to my cast by sharing his knowledge. That guy was like 90 and casting twice as far as me with perfect placement and catching 5 trout to every one of mine.

use a gotcha plug at the end of your big sabiki for macks.

That makes me think about using a floating crab in place of a bobber when fishing salt, nothing will hit a bobber, but a artificial crab you got a chance.

Are you guys experimenting getting cutoff at all? My sabikis are for baitfish and at best branches 30lb test.
Am I to assume homemade heavier-duty setups?
Sounds interesting bouncing bucktails and pomp jigs around.

I use a large sabiki. I cast the sabiki out and jig it throughout the water column. I don't usually let it hit bottom because too many hooks to snag. When near the pier or baitfish I will stop it , let the bait hit it or bounce it. Once bait it is on, I leave struggle for a while.
Line green and white pompano jig worked on macks before it got not off. Pink and white not as good. 1 oz white/glow bucktail 1 Mack and 2 jacks. Most macks and all leather jackets hit the sabiki.
Most fish hit this in the upper half of the water column, snapper hit it in the lower half when close and I let it fall.
Gonna try a heavy spoon eventually too.

Regarding sabiki bite offs, I only use a 20/30 weight for bait or pan fish. I have used a 30/40 for macks and have had hooks cut off. I have seen and used 30/50 and 40/60 weight and those hold up better.
I have seen people use the pompano jig as the 'weight' on the bottom of a sabiki at Ft. DeSoto. Seems like a good idea to me.
