Thanks for the report & awesome catch. Seems like Fort Desoto is better than skyway this time of the year for macks. Yes better to catch macks and always less crowded than Skyway and much more polite peoples comes there for fishing. But if you like to catch other kind of fish than macks than Skyway is always much much better..

Great catch limelight. Thanks for the report. Hope your back is better soon. Hurting your back is never fun but doing it while catching a lot of fish makes it more tolerable.

What's the best tide to catch mackerel at fort.desoto? If You look at any Maps & Locate Fort Desoto, this is where most of the Gulf of Mexico Water comes into Tampa Bay. Early in the Year-(February & March), the Incoming Tide produces the Most Macks because of the Macks coming into Tampa Bay where there is Warmer Water-(above 63 degrees). In the Summer, Both Tides should produce plenty of Macks because of Migration & Spawning Patterns, plus the Macks chasing the Baitfish for a Meal. In the Fall Months, the Outgoing Tide should produce the Most Macks as they leave Tampa Bay also for Warmer water South of the Tampa Bay Area. Either Tide at this time of Year should be real good for Catching Macks out there since the Red Tide has now gone. With the Red Tide now gone out of Tampa Bay & the Pinellas County & Manatee County Area, the Baitfish and the Catching of of Macks should Improve Quite Considerably. I am only saying this from Many Past Years Experiences. FISH ON PEOPLE !

Glad to hear that the macks are there. I went out on 7/6 and got skunked. I tried greenbacks, gotchas, and spoons, all to no avail. Guess I just didn't catch the tides right. I think I'll go out and try again on Friday.

Macks were there but as you know no one can be sure about fishing,i have been fishing at Fort Desoto last 16 years and sometimes i also could not get one single fish, try to be there morning when incoming tide start, good luck on Friday.
