Just wanted to say Hello and thank you. New to this forum but not to fishing from piers. Recently relocated from Broward county, southeast FL to just outside Gainesville and miss being somewhat close to the atlantic coast and fishing. I have fished for over thirty years on all piers from Sebastian inlet to Palm beach to Miami and have caught my share of dinners....most of the time..if it swims near the coast, I believe I've caught it. Unfortunately it is a 2.5 hr drive one way to the SSP and I have made the trip twice and did catch a few macks for dinner. It takes some time to learn the patterns of fish in a new area. I love that you can drive up to the area you want to fish and have your car nearby. This forum has provided much invaluable info and thank you to all who post info and fishing reports. Looking forward to meeting some of y'all and sharing any valuable input I can provide. Tight lines....

No problem macktime. If you moved to Gainesville, look at cedar key, there is a fishing pier there. I only been there once, but it seems to be a place where you can catch redfish, black drum, trout, and sheephead.

Welcome. I know what you mean about the drive. I live in Bushnell, and thought I had a long way to go, but Gainsville is really up there. If you can make it in only 2 1/2 hours, with all the construction on I-75, your doing better than most.

Welcome! What tears said, you have Cedar Key pier. I believe it's pretty productive in the fall. I've fished it in summer, a few whiting is all. But close to you.

You are also close to many springs, not for fishing but great for swimming and snorkeling this time of the year as they stay at 72 degrees year round, Ginnie, and Devils den are both close to you.

Welcome to the forum Macktime and all the newbies I may have missed. Cedar Key had some damage from a tropical storm I think last year or the year before. You fishermen coming from long distances check out Ft Desoto as they have a campground and it would be pretty close to the Skyway Piers if you did not want to sleep overnight in your cars. The website www.pinellascounty.org has a link to make reservations. I do not know what the costs or minimum # of nights requirement but you can get that off the website. Ft Desoto also has a Bay pier and a Gulf pier. The Gulf pier is much longer than the bay pier. There is a $5.00 parking fee for the park. I am not sure what the hours are for the piers but you should be able to get that off the website.
