06/09 SSP 6pm - 8pm
Got there to get some bait for the next day offshore trip. Lots of bait there but mostly greenbacks(threadfin). They are big! There were a few smaller greenies(scale sardines) mix in them every now and then.
The snapper fishing was great! Got 2 keepers and my buddy got 4 keepers. He got one that is around 15" as well! Strong out going tide fishing on the rock pile.
06/10
So smooth! On the way out saw 3 birds circling. The type that cannot get wet, so my friend and I stopped and threw out a flat line. Before I can bait my bottom rod, it got hit. Pulled in the bonita. Nothing else happening so we run to our spot that has 3 spots and we drift around to see what is out there. Around 70 feet of water. Pulled up a big octupus. HHHMMM heard red grouper loves octupus... Cut one of it tengles.... and drift fish with it. Got a nice 24" red grouper with it. Use the rest of the tengles but no more keeper red grouper. All small ones. During that time, a king took and break off my line... no steel leader and it shake it head and cut my line... ouch. Also saw the tails of mahi mahi swimming. Scream mahi mahi to my friend and he was confuse. Throw chum at the fish but they didn't response at all. Reel my flat line in and toss it at them. They just looked at it. I jerk the dead bait and then it attacked. So I hooked up and leave the fish in the water, my friend hooked up. I pulled mine in and toss out another bait. Same thing they won't commit because the bait are dead. Ended with 2 peanuts. Heard the coast guard telling people to get to safety because of the storm passing by. We look at our surrounding and planned out a route and got the hell out fast. Was somehow raining when we get to clearwater. Not a bad day.
We need to find more spot... all of our spot are not producing anymore. Next time, I'll attach a GPS on SkyJay when he goes fishing :-p!
