Arrived at 7am and stayed till 1130. The bait shop was out of live shrimp so I got some small greenbacks. First thing I noticed was a mid-sized Tarpon cruising between the spans. There were a lot of sheepsheads high up on the piling. While trying to get pinfish a nice large sheeps head hit my sabiki that was tipped with berkley fishbites (shrimp). As I was bringing him up he bent the hook and back in he went. Bummer. Never got any pinfish, but four grunts, some small sand perch and a few things that looked like lizard fish with finger looking appendages under their chin. The threadfins showed up around 945. I didn't notice anyone else catching much of anything. I did see several green sea turtles cruising around and left when I noticed flipper sneaking around under me and the clouds getting heavy.

Call the local bait shops and see if they have shrimp. Get back out there later this evening and fish the rocks. You have a good chance at taking home some dinner...

I will have to hit up one of the baitshops on my way in next time, the last two times I have been they have been out shrimp until the truck shows up later in the morning.

Karneei: Thanks for posting the report. Sorry you did not get much but reading about a sheeps head hitting a shrimp fish bite was encouraging. You could use frozen shrimp but the live ones are certainly better.

Thanks for the report. Yes, much better to get bait before you get there. You can usually do better on price, availability and friskiness!
