Asking for a friend... So, I'm still new to the fishing on the skyway pier. Live shrimp has worked the best for me but can get costly with all the pins and grunts hitting them like candy. Sabiki has ben great for pins and larger greenback, I'm still working on my net casting skills, I need a lot more practice and I still really don't know what I'm looking for at night to find bait fish... DOA and Gulp seems to be preferred artificial that people are using. Most people seem to be using them for inshore flat with a light pop with a slow retrieve or bottom jigging from a boat. I was wondering if anyone is using them with success on the piers and if so what tips or suggestions do you have?

Every time that I have used the DOA Shrimp at the Piers, they are ate to Pieces by the Fish with the Most Teeth. For Example, Mackerel, Sheepshead & Snappers. I usually use the DOA Shrimp on the Flats under a Popping Cork for Speckled Trout. Now many People uses the Gulp Baits out at the Piers.

Popping cork with DOA seems to be great for flats targeting reds and trout. Maybe I should find some good wading/shoreline spots also. Gulp seems to be popular due to their "marinade," so much fishing to do with so little time!

I've had zero luck with gulp shrimp on the Skyway. However, I do catch fish with them in the flats areas around Ft Desoto, the area on the north side of the NSP across the highway from the rest area and the Dunedin Causeway. Fished under a popping cork.

When using the Sabiki rigs for catching bait, what to you bait THEM with? TY A bit of squid works best. Sans that, pieces of old gulp products works too if you have them. I keep a jar of gulp juice with mangled gulp baits, DOAs, soft baits. A speck on a sabiki hook can get ya some baits. D
