Hey, been a long time reader of this forum but finally went ahead and made and account. I am taking a friend who moved down from Minnesota out tomorrow morning and thinking of doing some wade fishing in the bay (unless anyone has other land based suggestions), closeish to the USF area but willing to drive a bit. I personally haven't ever had a whole lot of luck at the skyway. Id really like to put him on at least some fish since he has never been saltwater fishing. Lately everywhere I have been going I haven't been getting a whole lot (mostly undersized snapper). Any advice is more than welcome. Thanks!

killen88: First off Welcome to the Site.
The Fish at the Moment around Tampa Bay are hard to come by because We had an Unusually Warm Winter & the Fish did not Migrate as Usual. I think, Around the Flats in Tampa Bay should be Your Best Bet on Speckled Trout & Reds. Fishing around any Structure of Bridges & Boat Docks may pay off. That is usually the Fish's hiding places from the Warm Temperatures & Warm Water. The Water needs to be moving. Fish the High Tides for Your Best Bet. Best of Luck to You.

thanks for the welcome! Okay I was thinking maybe wading on the north side of the gandy causeway, or out in the back of the picnic island park.

thanks for the welcome! Okay I was thinking maybe wading on the north side of the gandy causeway, or out in the back of the picnic island park. I don't know how productive it is, but on the St. Pete side, there is a place at the north end of 4th street (don't pass the last turn around, or you will find yourself on I-275), where you can park and wade. A live shrimp, under a "Cajun-Thunder" type rattle float is my goto rig for wade fishing(and just about everything else). Fish it about 12" off the bottom, that will put it just above the seagrass. If you prefer throwing artificials, a white curly tail jig works well. Good luck, and looking forward to your successful fishing report.
