A quick report from SSP, night fishing 06/02-06/03

One friend and I arrived at SSP last night at about 11:00pm, fished until 7:30am this morning.

Cought and released: One speckled trout (14''), one snook (26''), one lady fish, one gag grouper (16''), 5-6 undersize snappers (8-10''), few grunts.

Cought and kept: 5 mangrove snappers (all about 12-13'').

Have not seen many baits, but sabiki rig will do the job when you need them. Both pinfish and greenbacks are around.

Did see others around catching snappers and undersized groupers.

No Mackerel.

Nice report and plenty of action! Did you get the mangos on greenbacks? Looks like again, the time to fish there is at night.

Good to hear the mangrove bite is picking up. I've fished a lot of overnight trips, and have never caught mackerel after dark. Always at sunrise, or sunset.

Seems the mangoes save the day. Nothing wrong with finding keeper sizes.

Mackerels are extremely enigmatic this year.

what bait was you using when you caught the gag?

The mangos was cought on live shrimps. We tried to use cut greenback, cut pinfish, squid slice, and died shrimp. Although a lot of bites, none of them could produce snapper.

The grouper was cought on a slice of squid.  It's a kind of weird, but we tried to freeline pinfish almost all night without a single bite.
