Fancy that Sunday 11/13,,, hit the SSP at about dawn,,, tried my luck just west of the baitshop where the Eastern pilings have been brought down. Lots of bait round the pilings,, pinners,, sardines,, grunts,, lizardfish etc,,, as usual my kids had a ball catching my bait. Caught a few decent macs on a #2 Sabiki,,, including one that was at least 4lbs. No grouper landed but got rocked pretty good around noon by something that hit a live pinfish like a dump-truck. Caught a nice big Remora on a piece of cut sardine,,, at least 20" and put up a brilliant fight,, freaky looking fish though,, a first for me at the Skyway. No trophy fish but a nice day fishing with the family.

Nice. time with the family is allways worth it. Guess you and riverviewsteve are the only ones left that still fish the piers.
Them damn skyway grouper are smart bastards. if you don't stick em straight away, they own ya.

Very nice report. Yeah I guess I'm kind of addicted to that pier. I kinda like the convenience of being able to park near my fishing poles. I'm very familiar with that word havetofish used. SKUNKED Been there many times. Don't get much chance to do it with family anymore. Grandson going to a university in Orlando and son in the Coast Guard. Hopefully I'll get them both for a couple of days at christmas time. How long is the Grouper season closed this time? I'd still like to hit the Two Georges sometime. Fish on. riverviewsteve

eaglesfanguy when you went out on Two Georges last time I remember you said a lot of Grouper were caught that day. Were any of them Red Groupers? I guess what I'm asking is there a good chance I could bring back a Red or two? Also did you happen to see any black sea basses? My wife don't care for the grunts much but we love them black sea bass. Haven't been out on a boat for a long time but didn't see many caught. Thanks riverviewsteve

On the trips i went on Steve, mostly gags caught. But there is allways a red or two. Now that gags are closed i would assume they will target the red groupers. As for seabass, a few here and there, mostly shorts but one guy got about a 3 pounder last trip. very nice bass for this area. How does your wife unit not like grunts? I think they taste better then grouper, there just bite sized. You should call em, they are very friendly. And will tell you what there targeting.

My wife also likes the black sea bass. Sometimes, we make a trip to the east coast of florida and go out of ft pierce on the lady stuart. 3rd Saturday of each month they do a 10 hour trip. Now, there are even closed seasons for sea bass
