Has anyone caught Spanish Macks lately on either the NP or SSP, or heard if they are back in the bay.

On the spur-of-the moment went to the skyway today (ssp), got out there about 10:30am, as soon as we cast netted some bait big greenbacks (used filleted greenbacks) the bite was on, the macks ran from 22 inch, to 26inch. As soon as the bite stopped at the Y, we moved down the pier and it was game on, till we left around 3:30pm, the only problem was gettting the bait spoons and gotcha`s past all the jacks, so the macks are back. Tight lines and full coolers. Bob

Yep, Was there yesterday, first time in many months. The macks were on the chew. Caught one really big one. Huge schools of fry bait and threadfins underneath are keeping them around the pier on the incoming tide. No one was catching anything on live or cut bait. Small clark spoons was the ticket. I must have used 10 different spoons and gotchas, but the small Clark on a fast retrieve is what worked. There were a lot of small jacks in the mix. Stay mobile, follow the bait schools.
Can't say much for the grouper bite, my friend only caught a short on the outgoing.

yesterday we did do good on cut bait floated under a popin-cork, and I also did good useing "Manny" spoons size single 0, his spoons are lighter than squid-spoons and have more action. Didn`t see any bonito yet, but it`s the time of the year they should start showing up.

I was at the SSP yesterday from 5.30 AM to a little after noon. I caught 1 undersize mac and I saw small ones caught here and there. Bait was plentiful, but to me, the fishing was as bad as it gets.

Went out saterday morning with my brother and his brother-inlaw, castnetted up some good whitebait, as soon as the sun came up and the tide started coming in we started catching macerel and jacks, spoons and live bait floated under poppin-corks was the tickit, bro`s brother inlaw has very few free days to fish, so the close to non stop action was a real treat for him. the mac`s were running from 18 to 24 inches and fat, next weekend he wants to bring two or three of his kids ( 12 to 19 years old) out to get in on the action LOL, its fun for me to show young people how to catch fish, and mac fishing is a good way to get kids hooked on fishing, it`s not the waiting game the grouper fishing can be when fishing off the piers, mac fishing is easy fun and can be non-stop till they are wore out and have a smile from ear to ear, and good memorys, and want to do it again (and again LOL).

I went out to SSP on Tuesday - got there around 3:30 PM fished up by the entrance and caught 14 Macks by 7PM - threw a couple back...12" but too short for me. Most were 14" to 18". Caught all of them on a small spoon - tried cut bait fish and live under a bobber - not much luck...a few jacks. I did see some people catching them with the bait fish but spoons seemed to work better for me. Had a first - got a sail cat with the spoon....weird? After 7 tried for snapper and grouper further down the pier - not much and didn't see anyone else doing any good either.

We were at the SSP yesterday. The macks were ferocious. Some small jacks in the mix. Dolphins were a nuisance. Lost a half dozen fish to them.
The top few feet got the best results.

Would like that. Been so long since I have fished, I gotta carry a picture of one in my wallet to remember what they look like. I would like to get out there Saturday (kinda against my Doctors orders) and see what's biting. Just a bend in the rod would be a blessing. Likely cost me another months therapy but who cares, I need a little mental therapy right now. Nothing worse than sitting around and thinking about the pain, drives you nuts. Of course for me, that's a short putt.

Well, went out on saterday morning to the SSP, rain, wind started out the day, a major front moveing thru, the mack bite was slow, they were there I could see them taking runs at are live bait but they didnt seem to want the 3-inch green backs we had in the livewell, luckily I got quite a few spanish sardines and when I started useing those dines thats when the bite got good, till the dines ran out and the bite slowed again, we ended up catching around 20 good sized macks and had at least that many cut-offs (gotta love mack fishing lol) all in all it wasnt a bad day. Still waiting for the bonito to show up, the water temp is right for them, so here`s hoping to get a few next time.
