Allrighty. I'm home.
All i can say is. WOW! what a trip. And i was told it was a slow trip . What a fantastic deal this is. hubbards overnight trips are amazing. more fish then you could even expect. great people, awsome price. comfortable boat.
ok here we go.
Started the day early. Got to madiera beach about 1pm. Loaded my rods, had a beer and watched the scenery.
Loaded up and underway at 3pm. putting our way out, Some guys tossed out some spoons behind planers. Everyone was giddy with excitement. and some were green allready. Sky was clear, wind was blowing about 20 mph and seas were supposed to be 4 - 6 then lay down by sat afternoon.
Wrong! seas were 4-6ft to start...
we chugged along people started in on there naps. cause we had a 10 hr ride ahead of us. well about an hour in im watching the starboard rod and zinggggggggg there she goes. fish on.. i cut the retaining string and grab the rod.. Turned out to be a 10 or so lb false albecore.. then 2 more rods get slammed.. 3 bones on 2 landed..
Put the spoons back out on bang im hooked up again.
What a trip not even out of site of land 2 fish for me allready. This is gonna be a great trip!
well by 9 pm the boat is dead.. im the only one awake wandering around.. way to amped for sleep. ohh no, no beer.. and the galley is locked up.. damn this is a long ride. No sleep no beer, just big ass waves..
About midnight we get to the grounds. 140 ft of water... first drop im using salted mackerel.. they didnt even get the hook down.. i couldnt resist. bang one of the many, many, many Champagne porgy's. Go me! first fish on the boat, was a bone then a king.. now a big porgy.. i'm the man.!
So we were steady non stop till sunrise. Champagne porgy's, b-liners,gags, reds, jolthead porgy's, Monster mangos, and all sorts of critters.
saw 2 turtles, millions of flying fish kept slamming into the boat.. poor lil critters. huge squid coming by in the tens..
Musta been 20 big gags caught that i saw. several big red grouper, tons of mangos porgy's and beeliners.
saw some b liners in the 3 to 5 lb size.. they were huge.. By morning we hit a amberjack hole.. saw several caught..1 big one 29.9 lbs.
A giant cuda was also caught.
we caught B-liners,mangos,amberjack,bar jacks,champagne porgys, joltheads,octopuss,bluefish, 1 tilefish, 1 kitty mitchel,gags, big scamps,red grouper,barracuda,triggerfish,kingfish,false albecore, thats just what i witnessed.
so i highly reccomend doing one of these trips. Great crew.
Capt. Mark ran the boat, and loves to give tutorials and make chit chat.. Lots of tips and tricks i learned fishing with these guys. cant wait till june.
FWC was on board.. they are some great guys. Worked there buts off. They were tagging so many fish, counting numbers.. and just doing what they do. Great to see "Real" Wildlife people doing great work.
Oh yea, someone owes me a T-Shirt, for my double tagged grouper...That was interesting.
Well enough typey typey heres a bunch of pictures.
FWC guys working hard.
My friend Stephano bowed up on a large A.J
