Morning everyone,
I have another convention in Orlando this Thursday and Friday. Saturday I have convinced the wife to give the pier a try. I fish from the surf here in NC and would rate myself as an average fisherman (although I'm up from last year's rating)...Our Piers in NC offer Kings and Spanish area's toward the end and for the most part King fisherman use a two pole system with one rod and line used exclusively as anchor. I'll ask the usual question of what would you recommend that I target this time of year? I've been reading past forum posts on grouper and snapper but to me it looks like it still might be a little early for a big day. I love Spanish and have caught many nice Kings from a boat. I'll get a sabiki rig for bait (what type of pole should I use and does it even matter for bait?). I have a 10ft surf rod with a Okuma Sentara sn65 reel from Dicks that seems like it would be overkill. I have a Penn 650 ssn 20# test on an Ugly Stick 7.5, I have a Cabelas's Salt Striker ss40 with 15# braid on a medium Inshore Magnum rod from Gander Mt. That's about it for saltwater. Will this equipment cover me or will we need something more substantial? Here's a few more dumb questions...what time should we get out there on Saturday the 9th? Any thoughts on the tide for that particular day? Any help is greatly appreciated. I'll look for the window decals and group trucks. Hope to meet a few of you Saturday. Can't wait. North or South Pier?
