My brother and I hit the south pier yesterday morning around 8am or so. Bait was pretty deep but we could get them up with a sabiki. After 10:00 am or so, bait was nice and thick. The fishing was hit or miss. Seemed like I had a nice mack trailing every cast of my gotchas and spoons but they just did not want to hit. Ended up catching 5 keeper macks with the largest about 18 inches off of greenbacks. The 18 inch mack ended up being goliath bait, which was hit only after about a 15 minute soak. Half way through the day, on my light spinning combo, I caught a very nice sized ray. I cut both wings off and send one down on the 6/0 with 250 power pro. Within 25 minutes or so, BOOM! Had a monster goliath on that ended up actually pulling the 300 lb swivel off the rig. Sent the other wing down and hooked up soon after again. That one broke free too. Saw a nice sized cuda hanging out around my spot as well. A kid nearby ended up hooking it for about 5 seconds. Ended up with 5 macks, a bunch of pins and whitefish, a ray, and 3 goliath fights. Also saw a guy catch a 7 lb hogfish which was cool.

There was a FWC volunteer educating anglers about the fishing regulations and he confirmed it was a hogfish. Pretty cool!
