Hello all. My friend and I went to the NSP on Friday 3/4/11 and had a great day pulling macks with sabiki rigs. It was my first time catching macks, and believe it or not, my first time not using live bait. On to my question. How long can we expect the macks to stay around the area? I really enjoyed the fishing, and was having a lot of fun, regardless of the size of the macks. I look forward to doing it again. So im curious as to what times of the year the macks are around the Skyway. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Macks will hang out till around mid November unless we get some major early cold fronts. During the real hot months the action slows down but the ones that do bite are quite large. Eventually your best bet will be live greenbacks about 3 to 4 inches long. Cutting the larger ones into chunks also works but you will be fighting pinfish. Silver spoons and Gotcha plugs work great. My favorite Gotcha is the small silver with the red head and white bucktail. It works great. Hope this helps, Pete

As long as the bait is around the Macks will be around. Some say there are resident macks and do not migrate. They just move up in the bay and out to egmont. But I do not speak Mack
