I was just wondering if anyone around the area enjoys Permit fishing from the beach or even knows if there are any lurking around the beach in the summer time? I have done very good on the east coast, but i know this is a whole new ball game over here. I am not asking for any spots I just want to know if anyone has landed any on this coast without a boat. Thanks for any input.

the only one i have caught outside of the keys was at the bridge going to pier 60. got it on a live shrimp on the bottom. it was 11 pounds. thought it was a huge pompano but the fella fishing next to me said it was a permit because it had a certain amount of ribs on it's caudel fin. this is going back about 10 years or so.

i have heard it has been a long time since anybody has seen permit tailing on the flats, generally pomps tail. would advise to fish some deep wrecks in the mouth of the bay.
