Ok guys, so i was catching up on some average angler adventures when i came across the flounder show. Now i have an itch and i tried unsuccessfully to scratch it on the 30th at Ft. Desoto.
Bought some flounder lures, and a floundering i went. Can anyone give me some pointers, advice, and perhaps some areas that are kayak or wading safe in the ft. desoto or any other area for that matter that i could try out. Im new to flounder and have never gone out targeting them.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
thanks,
Jason

One of my fav ways to fish for them is with live finger mullet, 20lb leader, swivel, and 1 oz weight (depending on current.
I like fishing docks and natural structure (jetty, point.....), casting a few feet beyong my target area. Slowly draging the bait back to me, with a pause now and again (kind of like worm fishing for bass). Lots of big flatties at sebastian inlet.

not really the time of year for them. Pretty sure the flounder run ended in Nov., at least thats when I last saw one and it was a strong run this year. You can catch them here and there when it starts getting warmer, but in that show he points out that when they make their run in Nov they are caught more cuz they are leaving their habitats getting fat and heading out to deeper water to spawn. Hope this helps dont want you wasting your time right now, Sheeps are bout the only thing I bother to target when it gets cold everything else is alot harder

Jason if you feel like a good paddle I got an excellent gps# in 130ft. on the Pipeline. lol seriously though Im pretty sure the AA segment youre refering to was filmed on the East Coast upriver from and adjacent to Sebastion Inlet. The river area is very Yak friendly. Generally speaking the main push at the inslet is over for the giants by now but there could be a few stragglers passin through best targeted from the south catwalk in my opinion. Back on the West Coast have done real good in the past on cold water Flounder on shallow sun warmed flats around Simmons park area on small baits seined along shore. Zebra Chub and Mud Minners. You should try out the power plants with yer Yak bubbah. Big Ben and Anclote both offer excellent opourtunities. Hope ya ketch a bunch. J

Jay tried to get ya!!!
Those #s are in 152 ft of water!
Blacktip said it best.If ya can manage to fish a plastic worm for bass you'll have no problem flounder fishin.Match the hatch on what bait is runnin and a simple fishfinder rig will work fine.I like a short(10-12) leader.I also like a simple jighead with a live bait, covering alot of water.
And nobody(you slackin Jay)mentioned to let them take the bait......give yourself a 3-5 count before you set the hook.Flounder kill there food before eating it so it's easy to snatch a hook out while they are chompin.Good luck.
